Mitsunari Ishida (1559 ~ 1600) was a faithful supporter of Hideyoshi and played an integral role in the transformation of Japan following Hideyoshi’s death when he swore to he swore to protect Hideyoshi’s son.  Mitsunari fought Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara to uphold his promise.  Mitsunari lacked the level of battlefield experience that other samurai leaders possessed and maintained an outspoken demeanor that portrayed him as a bit tactless at times.  Mitsunari’s role in executing strategic government orders made him highly disliked amongst the military ranks.  Nonetheless, Mitsunari played a pivotal role in building the foundation that the Tokugawa family used to rule over Japan for more than 260 years after his death.
