Kiyomasa Kato (1562 ~ 1611), the son of a blacksmith, was known as one of Hideyoshi's closest retainers after his pivotal performance during the battle of Shizugatake distinguished him as one of the “Seven Spears.”  His ruthless fighting style was legendary on the battlefield where Kiyomasa took hostages to force rulers to surrender.  Kiyosama was known for hunting tigers for sport and presenting their pelts to Hideyoshi and outlawing other samurais from practicing shameful hobbies such as poetry or dancing.  Although many of his tactics were cruel, they showcase his focus on upholding the samurai spirit, thus making him an awe-inspiring natural leader.
