Sanada Yukimura (1567 ~ 1516) was a resourceful military commander and highly respected samurai who was often referred to as the “bravest warrior in Japan” and the “crimson war demon.“ Sanada’s passionate and fearless attitude towards battlefield warfare was on full display before and after the 14 years that he spent in exile following Tokugawa Ieyasu’s victory in the Battle of Sekigahara. Following his exile, Sanada returned to utilize clever strategies and a tactful approach that blocked Tokugawa’s advances in the Siege of Osaka and later, again, during the battle of Tennouji. Sanada’s perseverance, bravery, and impressive skill that he displayed during these battles earned him his enemies’ lasting respect.
