Shingen Takeda (1521 ~ 1573) was one of the most powerful daimyo due to his unparalleled genius in using ironclad cavalry units to decimate his enemies in battle. Although Shingen died under mysterious circumstances, his legend lives on due to stories of his cruel and ruthless treatment of prisoners of war. Shingen’s accomplishments and prowess were so influential that even his enemies paid tribute to him following his mysterious death. Shingen was a complicated figure in that on top of being outrageously cruel at times, he also possessed great levels of domestic skill. It was this skill that allowed him to be a superior military leader while also replacing capital punishment with a system of fair fines.
